WELLNESS TIPS

by Ashoka Ayurveda

Dear guests,

In our last newsletter we gave you small Ayurvedic tips for strengthening the immune system. This time we would like to explain how you can give yourself a break  from everyday life - even without one of our treatments - with our Ayurvedic self-love ritual. You should do this as often as possible in the evening before going to bed as a routine.

We have summarized the advantages of this ritual and detailed instructions for you:

Manual:

The advantages of Ayurvedic self-massage:

  • Gives the body softness, strength and color
  • Reduces the effects of aging
  • Nourishes the body
  • Stimulates the internal organs of the body and increases blood circulation
  • Improves sleep
  • Pacifies Vata and Pitta

When better not?

With acute fever or during menstruation

The oils:

  • Sesame (Vata)
  • coconut (pitta)
  • Juniper / nettle (Kapha)
  • Jojoba (Tridosha, for every constitution type)

The duration:

  • approx. 15-20 minutes

The technique:

  1. Make yourself comfortable on a large towel in a warm room
  2. Warm the oil in a water bath or simply pour it into your hand, spread it well in both hands and warm it up a bit
  3. It should be enough to massage until the oil wraps around the skin like a coat
  4. In Ayurveda, the massage applies from top to bottom and from the inside out
  5. Head: Drip oil onto the middle of the head and massage into the scalp in a circular motion towards the ear, follow the back of the head and neck, the ears are also very pleasant and important to massage
  6. In order to stimulate the blood circulation, you can tap on the head with the fingertips and finally pull lightly on the hair
  7. Face: Dip your fingertips in oil and massage the forehead from the center in a circular motion to the outside. Important points here are above all the areas under and over the eyes, from the nose over the cheeks, lips and chin, as well as the lower jaw
  8. The neck is massaged with both downward and outward strokes, the process can be repeated as desired
  9. Arms: Are also massaged in a circular motion, starting from the shoulder down to the wrist. Particular attention is paid to the contours of the upper and forearm muscles, the process is repeated at least 5 times in both arms
  10. Hands: Here you can let your creativity run free - just leave nothing out, so don't forget your palms, joints, balls and surface, what is good for you is allowed.
  11. Back: Depending on your flexibility, you can work with circular movements again - especially the lower back deserves a special treatment and is more easily accessible , with light pressure
  12. Legs: Are massaged synchronously from top to bottom, the knees can be gently circled
  13. Feet: You can devote a particularly long time to this, because there are numerous points that are directly connected to the internal organs - similar to the hands and ears. To end the massage, you can massage each toe with small circles and pull it off slightly
  14. After the massage, the oil should act a little, depending on the time capacity between 15-25 minutes. The time can be used for a few asanas (for example the sun salutation).
  15. Then take a nice hot shower. Then rub vigorously to stimulate the blood circulation again.
  16. This refreshing experience is then devoted to meditation.

We hope that we can give you some valuable tips for the upcoming time. We look forward to welcoming you back soon and wish you and your loved ones lots of energy and health.
